LoopMIDI Issue in Windows 11 25H2 – Important Update
With the rollout of Windows 11 version 25H2, Microsoft introduced the new Windows MIDI 2.0 driver stack. While this is a major system upgrade, it has caused compatibility issues with LoopMIDI and other virtual MIDI ports.
Users may experience:
- LoopMIDI ports not appearing inside DAWs
- Virtual ports disappearing after reboot
- Control surfaces failing to initialize
- Inconsistent MIDI port detection
This issue is not caused by our profile or the Stream Deck MIDI plugin.
It is inherent to the current Windows MIDI 2.0 update.
Temporary Workarounds (Choose 1 or 2)
1. Restart Windows MIDI Service (Per Reboot)
- Go to Windows Tools → Services
- Locate Windows MIDI Service (or MIDI Services)
- Click Stop, then Start
⚠ This must be repeated after every system restart.
2. Roll Back the Windows MIDI Update
Uninstalling the recent Windows update can restore LoopMIDI functionality and return your system to a stable state.
See this article on how to roll back.
Cubase Users (Immediate Alternative)
Cubase users can use the Cubase 11 profile included in your download as a temporary working solution.
This profile:
- Does not rely on MIDI
- Uses hotkey shortcuts instead
- Works across Cubase versions
⚠ Important: Make sure to load the included Keyboard Preset for it to function correctly.
We will continue monitoring Microsoft’s updates and will release further announcements once MIDI 2.0 becomes fully stable for production environments.
Our Transition Plan
We will be transitioning our entire DAW Windows packs to the new Windows MIDI 2.0 virtual ports to ensure long-term stability.
This will take some time to convert thousands of MIDI commands to the new system so we ask for your patience while we conduct this transition.
We will be announcing the updates on our What’s New page, through our email newsletter and through our Discord server.
While waiting for Microsoft’s driver rollout to fully stabilize, we recommend:
Following one of the temporary workarounds above, or
Refraining from updating your Windows system until we have fully transitioned our pack and MIDI 2.0 is confirmed stable.
Turn off Windows Auto Update.
